TRAVELWITHLEEN - Beijing Day 1 & 2,

Hello!

It's been 6 months since I was back from my Beijing trip and it's time to jot down my first trip to China before I forget.

I had the chance to visit Beijing because Mr. Z was serving his 1-year exchange there and I thought... "Why not?". Booked my flight and accommodation and that's it! April it shall be, for 10D9N!

We flew on 31 March 2017 via SQ Airbus A380 - a double-decker plane. It was our first time on an Airbus. We = Mum and I.

So here came our first day and I was thrilled because I could finally see the boy in a few hours' time!

Day One

We landed safely in Beijing International Airport but couldn't see Mr. Z at the arrival gate /death stares/ We only saw him like 10mins later...

Boarded a cab to our hotel - Penta Hotel. It is a 4-stars hotel if not wrong. The hotel is located near 2 shopping malls which makes it really convenient for us to buy erm... breakfast for the next day on some days HAHAH!

I especially love their entrance because it's a 360-degree automatic door that you seldom (or don't) see it in Singapore.

LOL! I just realised that this is the only trip that I didn't take photos of the hotel room! I must have been super tired from the trip everyday! For the record: here!

We had our first meal at 海底捞, at a shopping mall nearby! Thankful for it being nearby because I was famished!!!!

Both Mum and I were amazed of how advanced China is because they can pay using phone/QR Code!!!! So convenient too!

After we were done with our dinner, we headed down to 王府井 for a walk. The wind was super chilly and my thick furry jacket that I bought from TCL wasn't of much uses! :(

Entrance of WangFuJing
We didn't purchase anything here. Not even the food... There are many stalls selling fried insects such as scorpions and even starfish!!! Sorry but we had no guts to try so we only did some sightseeing at this place!

Anyway, we walked back to our hotel after that. This was how we ended our first day in Beijing with me freezing very badly and not used to the temperature there. My knuckles were numb and the next thing I knew was that my eczema acted up again due to the change in weather between Singapore and Beijing...

Day Two

On this day, we started our day early at a dimsum place at a shopping mall just beside our hotel again - 避风塘! Highly recommended because the food + service were really good! Prolly because we were the first few there but yep, the food was good!

霸王酥皮叉烧包 + 牛油菠萝包

Baked Portugese Egg Tarts

Steam Chicken Feet with Black Bean Sauce

蜜汁叉烧肠粉

椒盐九肚鱼
After we were done with our breakfast, we took 滴滴 to Tian'anmen (天安门) for some of the palaces visits. The queue for bags check was long but thankfully it wasn't that crowded after that checkpoint!

This lake was a few minutes walk after we entered the place. The place was huge and it's another walkable distance to another palace from this lake...

Bought the tix to enter the place. Idk if it's a palace or what. But you've to purchase tix in order to enter so... Yep!

Then we finally reached The Temple of Heaven after walking quite some time!!!

The weather was really good! Beautiful weather, beautiful architecture!

But it was really crowded and not a good time for photos because...

First

Second
The locals wouldn't care if you're taking photos or not! They would just get into YOUR frame and cared about their own photos. So, erm. Ok... I've learnt to blend into their culture after experiencing this. LOL!

Decided to give their sausages a try because we've been seeing it everywhere and almost everyone was eating it. Like so nice meh?

Never try, never knw! It was indeed delicious! We almost wanted to go for 2nd round but it was very oily as you can see from the above image!!

Almost the last attraction in the palace. We saw a group of locals gathering at the centre and they were looking up into the sky all the time. We were super curious and thought only by standing there that we could see smth unique, you see?!

Then we saw this a board that says...
As the surface of the uppermost terrace of the Circular Mound is paved with nine concentric rings of stone slabs, the round stone slab in the centre is called the Heavenly Centre Stone. It is surrounded by 9 stones in the first ring, 18 in the second, up to 81 in the 9th ring, symbolising the Nine Heavens. If one speaks standing on the Heavenly Centre Stone, the air voice will be particularly resonant and sonorous.
That's when we realised that the group of people are actually doing the actions of Monkeys see, Monkeys do!

Left the place and headed for our dinner at 刀小蛮 in a shopping mall. Apparently, this restaurant sells 云南 cuisine.

This place looks so romantic!

Mr. Z decided to try this and threw away after his first bite. LOL!

& That's how we spent our first two days in Beijing!

Here's short clip that I've done for memory sake :)
